Fowl eye candy
« on: February 18, 2013, 06:33:16 PM »
As a boy growing up in farm county I was one of Murray McMurry's better customers.*  Every spring I would place my order for one of McMurray's "25 chick rare breed specials" and then be on tenterhooks wondering what new and exciting birds I would have for the county fair that fall.

Even after the chicks arrived, it was still a guessing game.  Oh sure, you could get an idea of what color they would be or if they would have feathers on their toes but that would be about the extent of it. Until the birds were four to six weeks old. and starting to feather out nicely it was purely a guessing game.  And a rare old assortment it would always be.  Black Minorcas. Blue Andalusians, Polish Minorcas, Buff Orpingtons, Turkins, the list could go on and on. At any rate, I happened to run across the link below earlier this evening and thought others might enjoy it as much as I did.  The birds in the photos are all or mostly Bantams  (In my opinion not a very practical size for preppers) but they sure do take a great picture.

*  The McMurray hatchery is still in business and I would recommend them highly as a source of specialized breeds including turkeys, ducks and geese.

The Buff Orpingtons are my favorite! I've had them for nearly 15 years now.

my kitchen is all about chickens.

You too?! I have all sorts of chicken pics from whimsical to realistic to photos as well as figurines and a cookie jar, curtains and towels! Now I'm branching out into bunnies.  :)

But they escaped the kitchen long ago and are taking over the house.  ;D
God bless,
Bonnie
