God Made a Farmer...
« on: February 04, 2013, 07:22:59 AM »
I immediately recognized the distinctive voice of Paul Harvey (guess that dates me, eh? ;-)) and one of his best bits in the Ram Truck commercial that ran late in the game.  For those who missed it, or want to see it again, here 'tis...

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/nHjV-FPMm_I" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/nHjV-FPMm_I</a>

Paul Harvey was one of two radio raconteurs who deeply influenced me.  Jean Shepherd was the other.  These were the best and the last of their profession.  There are no more storytellers on the air, just the profane voices of 'talk radio'.  Nothing like this...

So now you know.

The Ram Truck commercial didn't win, but the top choice was heartwarming in its own right.

If I remember Joe Pine on the radio, does that make me ancient? His show was "reality" radio long before there was reality TV. No idea how he lasted as long as he did in those days. There must be a couple of other geezers here who remember him.

Yep, I remember my folks listening to him on the car radio, as we drove around....that was before FM (much less cassettes, CD's, Satellites, etc).
Yes, I'm a physician.  No, I'm not YOUR physician.  Nothing I say here is medical advice.

Do I treat Glocks like I treat my lawn mowers?  No, I treat them worse.  I treat my defensive weapons like my fire extinguishers and smoke detector - annual maintenance and I expect them to work when needed

Man, I think '67 was the last time I heard Joe Pine. I remember havin' weekend duty as the runner while in Basic at Ft. Lewis, and the Sgt. on duty loved listening to Joe's show. Only time I got to hear any radio for the whole nine weeks.
Sorry about the thread-jacking. Now we can go back for the rest of the story.
