Well, since I came into a little more paper money, and can't trade the paper money for precious lead at any price locally, I purchased a bit more silver from the same dealer.
This time, instead of rolls of proof silver coins, I got recently minted proof silver quarters. They're still in those nice display cases (five quarters per case) that the mint uses.
LOL. I'm not at all sure how to get them out of the cases in such a way that I could get them back into the cases, were I to want to do that.
But, if you look at the price of silver when these coins were minted vs. current silver prices, the dealer still made a handsome paper profit. And, since the dealer is only charging a 10 percent markup over spot it seems to me to be no more risky than investing in gasoline, or pork, or beef, or beans, or well...anything.
