I believe at least five "Republicans" voted in favor of the measures. Passage by the State Assembly is a forgone conclusion. I read the whole thing last night and the state now has more ways to confiscate weapons than law abiding citizens have to obtain one. Did a vindictive ex-wife ever request an "order of protection" as part of the divorce negotiations? If so, owning a gun makes you a felon. Will a gun accept a clip holding more than five shells? Best get rid of it out of state quickly. The fact that the individual does not own or possess a higher capacity clip makes no difference... the gun has to go. Want to buy a box of 22 shells? No problem. All you need to do is pass another background check - every time you go to the store.
Are you the executor of an estate? Did the decedent own an old single shot 22 rifle? OMG, call the State Police, we have to get these weapons off the street now! You get the idea.
At any rate, here is the new law:http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld&bn=A02388&term=2013&Summary=Y&Text=Y
