As the forecast for a M-class (medium sized) was raised to 50%, the large Active Region AR1654 came through and produced this M1-class flare at 09:11 UT.
Currently there are two Active Regions which harbor the power for M-class solar flares; AR1654 and AR1652. While AR1652 is already fully facing Earth, AR1654 is just about in the right position to maybe end the "drouth" of space weather events. We shall keep an eye on those two regions.
M-class solar flares are medium sized and can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth's polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare.
