Well, hopefully it is mere desire...

Ha ha... Do I need more ammo OR do I merely want more ammo?   ;D

You probably just want more ammo, simply because, as with most preps, have-now-but-don't-need-now  ;D is much better than need-now-but-don't-have-now  :o .
American parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere....

Our local Wally World was cleaned out of almost everything save a few hunting rifle calibers (.25-06, .22-250, some .30-30), a couple boxes of .38 Spl, and a few boxes of bulk pack 12ga.

Even the .22LR was gone.

So much for my plans of slowly adding to my stockpile.

My local Gander Mountain had plenty of 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP, albeit not exactly on sale. Not awful prices, either. Twenty-five cents per bang on the low end, getting up into fifty cents on the higher end. Neglected to check the rifle rounds. They even had a couple of Kel-Tec SU16s on the shelf and a few other AR pattern guns.

But the Wally Worlds were pretty wiped out. I was able to score some 12ga slugs at a more urban Wally World that were sold out at the one closer to me.

Gander Mountain has always had some of the higher prices among major retailers that sell guns.  Unless they put something on sale, they're almost always undercut by Academy (I'm a bit unclear if Academy has gone on the excrement list as a result of the latest hoo-haw or not), Bass Pro, etc.

That said, I do buy the Rio Target 12 ga shells I use for 3-gun from them, because they're the only place locally that carries them.

I'll have to go check and see if they actually have ammo in stock.
