Cool idea.  Just like a water bed, I'd be concerned about floor loading, but, yeah, that'd work, as long as no intruder lifts the mattress to see what might be hidden there.

I'd like to see the source to see if whoever did that first thought no one would ever find the safe that way, or if they were just trying to have a usable safe in an area of little floor space, like your post title says.  You can also get a floor-mount safe, sits between joists, presumably under carpet.  Again, hidden to casual eye, not to professionals.

Well, here's the BedBunker concealed bed safe page.  From the looks of it, they're claiming that this is a real safe, not just a lockable hidden compartment.  It also appears that your floor-loading concern may be an issue under some conditions, given the mass they list for each concealed bed safe (the Twin BedBunker weighs 670 pounds)....  :o

The company also sells floor-mount safes of the type you mentioned.

When our house was burglarized (nobody home, no guns or PMs on site) the officer who came to take the report told me two things:
1: she kept nothing of value in her home, pretty much ever.
2: crooks never seem to look in the bathroom.

WRT point #2, I trust that you understand that storing firearms in the bathroom is a Bad Idea [tm]....

From the web site:

Bedbunker safes are approved by the California department of justice for storage of firearms and are guaranteed for life!

I didnt know that Kalifornistan allowed firearms! ;D
