Welcome aboard, Mr. Preps.

This is just my opinion:

First, take a look around at this website. There's a lot of info on a lot of diverse topics. Spend some time reading here. You can ask just about any question you want and someone may be able to help you here at this website; just be cautious about giving too much info to strangers in 'real life'. Don't go around blabbing to everyone about what you are doing.

Second, decide what you are prepping for because it will affect how you prep. If you live in Florida you may want to prepare for Hurricanes first, then other disasters  like losing your job, then economic collapse, then EMP disaster, then etc etc etc....
If you live in California, you may want to prepare for earthquakes first, then everything else. If you live in Tornado Alley, you may want to prep for tornadoes first, then everything else. And so on and so on.
Lastly, don't forget to enjoy life while you prep. It's possible you may live to a ripe old age without any of these disasters happening, so don't spend your life being scared and gloomy. Everyone should prepare for bad times as best they can but don't let it make you miss out on life.

Lack of water is much more serious than lack of food

Look for posts on storing, obtaining and purifying water.
Store some in containers
Make a plan to fill other containers if you have advance warning.
Identify alternate in-house sources - water heaters, toilet reservors etc
Identify nearby raw water sources- ponds, rivers, etc. and possible ways to transport
Knowledge and supplies to filter and/or disinfect (bleach) raw water

Knowledge and planning and actual practice are all critical. Do not buy a nifty product and think that you are good to go.
