I tried something new this year...Tattler canning lids....they are supposed to be reusable...and last indefinitely if you don't knick or cut the rubber seal...
But they are treated slightly different than the regular disposable lid...you screw on the band, then loosen it 1/4 of an inch...before you can with them.
Well I was concerned that I would turn it too far, or not enough...so this is what I come up with for a solution.
Every jar has a seam on it. I screw on the lid, then find the seam, then I take a marker and make a mark on the lid right above the seam. Using the seam as a reference point, I then am able to loosen the lid just the right amount.
In the pic, I marked the seam on the jar just so you could see it....I don't actually mark the seam on the jar when I am canning.... I just mark the lid.
